I would not spend much money on any calibration hardware as calibrating your iMac will not get you close to the true colorspace. The reason is not the calibrator, but the hardware itself. The video data is only 8-bits per color channel and what the calibrators do is alter or remap the 256 color steps for each channel (R, G, & B) by an amount that attempts to bring the profile closer to true. While 256 steps may seem like a lot it is still very coarse for for the areas that matter (i.e., those dark shadows and blacks). Diagnostic Tool Cable OBD USB Interface for BMW R56 E87 E93 E70 Read. When you do that remaping there are going to be areas along the color intensity curve where those values are either very close together or will results in sudden large steps. The large steps will result in a loss of color intensity detail. Let's take a very crude example of what remapping does and I will only use 16 steps (4-bits) to demonstrate: Original Remapped • 0 0 • 1 0 • 2 0 • 3 1 • 4 3 • 5 4 • 6 4 • 7 6 • 8 6 • 9 8 • 10 9 • 11 10 • 12 12 • 13 13 • 14 14 • 15 15 The 'Original' numbers are the color intensity that your computer uses. It is exactly the same as your camera. The 'Remapped' numbers are what the calibrator does to approximate or correct the color shift of your monitor.
